The problem
With rising living costs and stagnant wages, more people are splitting expenses. Most budgeting tools cater to individuals, highlighting the need for a collaborative app to manage group finances effectively.
The goal
Our budget app will help those who share bills, have joint finances, or are saving for big purchases by tracking shared expenses, budgets, and savings progress in real time.
Understanding the user
I interviewed five working adults aged 18 to 40 to explore how they manage shared expenses, their emotions around it, and what excites them about group savings.
Pain points
1
“I want to avoid conflict, so I need everyone on the same page.”
This pain point underscores the need for group agreements on budgets. Our design will focus on features that enhance collaboration and communication.
2
"I want to manage my budget without interrupting what I'm doing."
This suggests a need for an efficient expense tracker to keep users motivated to stay on course. Our design will prioritize simple and clear user flows.
3
“I need to hold myself accountable for reaching my goals.”
This suggests the need for a tool that encourages consistency. Our design will incorporate features that support self-monitoring and progress tracking.
4
“I need everyone in my group to easily navigate and use our budget.”
This emphasizes the need for intuitive budgeting tools for new users. Our design will focus on user-friendly features to minimize the learning curve and enhance collaboration.
